"When you're green you grow, when you're ripe, you rot"
I was recently discussing this quote with a great friend of mine and we were talking about the value of staying green.
Staying green to me means living in a constant state of growth.
I've met so many stylists in this industry over the years and the one thing I have seen over and over again is that the stylists who continue to educate themselves, continue to grow, continue to risk and continue to push themselves are the ones who continuously achieve success.
These are the stylists who continuously attract new clients, dream clients, high ticket clients. They have the education to back up their pricing. They are constantly seeking to evolve and grow.
On the other hand, I have met MANY stylists who "already know everything". You'll hear phrases like "I've been in this industry for XXXXX years, there's nothing new to learn" or maybe, something like "education? I've learned everything there is to know already"
These are the stylists that will, eventually, fizzle out. The stylists who's clients grow old with them. The stylists who don't raise their prices and don't do "trendy" hair. The stylists who are usually burned out and sick and tired.
I ask you this. Wherever you are in your career journey, which "stylist" do you want to be?
I can almost guarantee that most of you will choose the stylist who continuously attracts the new, high ticket clients. The stylist that scales and grows through and through.
So the question, then, is HOW?
How do you, no matter how many years you have under your belt, revamp and scale your business?
The answer is easy. EDUCATION.
EDUCATION is the absolute KEY to staying green!
Education does a few things for us:
1- Education keeps us EXCITED..especially when you take a class or course on a topic that can really take you to the next level.
2- Education keeps us INSPIRED..learning something new (a technique, skill, placement, theory etc...) has the potential to spark a fire of inspiration that can be taken behind the chair.
3- Education prevents BURNOUT. This is a huge possibility especially to those of us who have been at it for a while now, the burnout is real. Doing the same thing, the same way, day in and day out can get....boring. Education can help break up the monotony and spark that excitant and inspiration to prevent burnout.
4. EDUCATION BUILDS CONFIDENCE. This is the HOLY grail we neeeeeeeeed to really stay relevant in this ever evolving industry. Confidence in your skillset will elevate your business to levels you didn't know where possible.
I speak from experience, as I am a FOREVER student. I have been teaching for the past 15 years, but I have remained a student throughout my whole career.
There is such immense value in staying green, in staying educated, in staying relevant.
Which type of stylist do you want to be?
Remember, when you're GREEEN you grow...when you're ripe...you ROT!
